Showcasing dream estates in Assisi and coastal Sicily
A centuries-old farmhouse in the Umbrian countryside. A rustic estate in a picturesque Sicilian fishing port. Both lovingly updated, with a careful eye to preserving their historic charm. Both magnificent family retreats or memorable bed and breakfast inns. Each the chance in a lifetime to realize a romantic dream. Tucked amid the hills two miles from the walls of medieval Assisi, a stone farmhouse stands in the stunning Umbrian landscape amid nearly thirty acres of wildflowers, wheat and vineyards. Southward across the Mediterranean, in Trapani on Sicily’s west coast, the sprawling Borgo Pida compound lies surrounded by century-old olive trees and a fragrant citrus orchard. John Aaroe Group will find the buyers destined to own each one. In 2009, an enchanting Umbrian farmhouse on 30 acres was painstakingly restored as a retreat — later voted one of the top ten meditation retreats in the world by CNN and Travel and Leisure Magazine. Just a twenty-minute drive from Perugia Airport, it’s worlds away. “History is alive here,” says agent Debbie Bremner, “from the 800-year-old olive tree to the garden fountain made of a boulder from the same quarry used to build Assisi’s 2,500-year-old Minerva Temple.” The farmhouse can sleep up to sixteen, plus private living quarters. Two outbuildings could provide more space. Historic Assisi is just two miles away, and a day trip to Florence or Rome is an easy train ride. Flights from nearby Perugia Airport can whisk you to Spain, France, England and Germany. Across the sea in Trapani, a charming fishing port on the west coast of Sicily, the 14,000-acre-plus Borgo Pida compound is a ten-minute drive from Trapani-Birgi Airport. Three buildings range from some 680 to 4,700 square feet, plus a stable. There are eight bedrooms. Amenities include an expansive pool, tennis court and fenced equestrian field. “Borgo Pida offers an extraordinarily rich experiences,” says agent Homa Taghavi. “You can wander the ancient city of Trapani, and take a cable car to the original settlement, the storybook Medieval walled hilltop town of Erice, or simply enjoy the beauty of the Sicilian countryside. Beautiful Mediterranean beaches, spectacular seafood and day trips to the nearby Aegadian Islands are moments away.” More about Assisi property More about Sicily property
