Toluca Lake allure
Even though it’s minutes from major studios and freeway close to the best of LA in all directions, Toluca Lake feels like a quiet, cozy enclave tucked away from the world. Some people feel hints of the fifties in its wholesome village atmosphere (IHOP and Bob’s Big Boy were both born here). Residents just see it as the ideal place to put down roots. We opened our Toluca Lake office early last year, and in the past twelve months, our market share has grown to top our next six competitors combined. A key reason for that success is Craig Strong, Director of Aaroe Estates and Toluca Lake’s leading agent. Craig has long been used to working with famous names. But even he felt a little starstruck when he was asked to represent the quintessential celebrity residence: the Bob and Dolores Hope Estate.

The Bob and Dolores Hope Estate

Everyone who was anyone in the golden era of Hollywood partied at Bob and Dolores Hope’s sprawling Toluca Lake retreat, which they built as newlyweds in 1939 and lovingly enhanced over their decades together. Set on one of the city’s last flat parcels of land of its size (over five acres), the property, listed at $23 million, “just might be the most true-blood celebrity estate left in the San Fernando Valley,” said the LA Observer.

This summer, the owners decided to break the expansive offering into two separate listings. The iconic main residence, grounds, and one-hole golf course are now listed at $12 million. The other 2.5+acres of land, including Hope’s production offices, are privately on the market for $10 million.

Not all Toluca Lake properties are this historic. The area’s blend of old and new is part of its appeal. A counterpoint among our current listings is a lavish, newly finished masterpiece that marries stunning modern amenities with classic European elegance, listed by Craig at $6,750,000.

We can’t wait to see what … and who … we’ll be representing next.
