In Place: West Hollywood

Style, vibrant social life and social activism define WeHo, a community dedicated to an inclusive lifestyle. Incorporated in 1984, the city embraces a sense of social responsibility that extends across the civic spectrum.

West Hollywood passed one of the nation’s first green building ordinances, and has one of the strongest rent control laws in the country. Enclaves of charming smaller homes and upscale hillside neighborhoods put residential areas like the Norma Triangle, West Hollywood Heights and West Hollywood in high demand. On the hillsides, the coveted Bird Streets and Hollywood Hills West are home to some of LA’s finest and most innovative architecture. According to Walkscore, a website that ranks cities based on walkability, West Hollywood is the most walkable city in California, with a score of 89. The legendary Sunset Strip, known for both the historic mansions above it and the rock music scene below, remains the place to see and be seen. Melrose Avenue is known worldwide for its trendy clothing boutiques, interior design shops, restaurants and antique stores. WeHo is also a global center for interior design, anchored by Robertson and Doheny Drives, Beverly Boulevard, and the famed Pacific Design Center. West Hollywood’s central location, bordered by the Hollywood Hills to the north, Beverly Hills to the west, and the Fairfax district to the south, makes it easy to get to nearby attractions from Rodeo Drive to Museum Row.
