New! Get reimbursed up to $10K to fix your sidewalk

Great news for LA property owners. Yesterday, the City of LA announced it’s raising the reimbursement cap for sidewalk repairs from $2K (homes) and $4K (businesses) to $10K across the board.

You have to apply with the City to participate in the rebate, which is part of the Safe Sidewalks LA program. A City employee will visit your property to establish the estimate for a repair that would make your sidewalk compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, then tell you your rebate offer.

Safe Sidewalks LA is part of a far bigger citywide initiative that came out of a $1.4 billion lawsuit agreement between the LA City Council and disabled residents and their advocates in 2015. The City agreed to spend $31 million a year for 30 years to install curb ramps, fix sidewalks that are broken and torn up by tree roots, install accessible sidewalks and remove many other barriers.

The rebate program began in 2016, but a City survey has shown more people would participate if the rebate were bigger.
